Puglia Strays

Since our arrival here our cat family has expanded from the two English cats, Bill and Ben, who came with us to 15 (plus or minus at any time). The additions are all stray/abandoned or born wild .... Bella, Bimba, Bertie, Bernie, Brutus, Blondel, Blossom, Bailey, Beano, Bon-bon, Buttons, Biscuit, Bruiser - meet the "B Brood". Most of them live in the garden, with beds in the summer house.

In addition to taking in strays that find their way to our doors we feed the Canuta Cat club, which has numbered up to 10 at any one time.

The cost of feeding the strays is not a problem but vetinary care can be expensive. For example just last week, Pebbles, one of the Canuta Cat club, was taken to be spayed. During the operation she was found to have kidney stones and a number of other problems. Total cost - 300 euros. We were happy to make a donation to the cost but certainly could not have met the whole cost ourselves. Luckily Pebbles recovered well and was rehomed, thanks to Liz for taking care of Pebbles and finding her a new home.

In February of this year we were hit with a bout of cat flu, we lost two of Blossom's kittens, Bagpus and Bingo, and also another little kitten, Badter who had found his own way to us. All the rest have now either been vaccinated or will be before next winter. And with the arrival of the kittens we've had another round of neutering as well. Our vet's bills this year so far have been high!

Val and Mino have 16 dogs and 2 cats to care for, most of them rescued. Some they hope to rehome. Please visit Puglia Pooches to see what they are doing. On Puglia Pooches you can make a donation, sponsor an animal or, if you are living in Puglia, find an animal to adopt.

Even if you don't live in Puglia, you can help us to care for the stray and abandoned domestic animals by making a donation. All donations, together with proceeds from advertising etc on this website are used to help the local stray and abandoned animals. Please help us to help them.
